what's anyone reading these days? i find myself in need of a book.
i'm still on a pick-an-unread-book-off-the-shelf kick, but would love to get some suggestions... i'm in the mood for fiction. any gems lately? any untested interests/recommendations?
i'm still pretty high on Kazuo Ishiguro, and could easily run with An Artist of the Floating World (which is waiting, unread on our shelves), though maybe i should branch out.

Shcniebofferson,
I am presently reading Bloom. I finished Where Shall Wisdom Be Found and am now reading Jesus and Yaweh: The Names Divine. But I know you are thinking of fiction. so let me invite you to join either my freshman with Golding's Lord of the Flies or my seniors with Huxley's Brave New World. What do you think? Read them lately?

thanks, jag. i've read both
thanks, jag. i've read both of those relatively recently (though i do feel compelled to read BNW often, to stay sharp)...
i know i said fiction, but i may try for another one that's been on my list for a while: The Omnivore's Dilemma, by Michael Pollan.

As a bonafide steak eater who nevertheless was vegetarian with surprising ease for long stints in Korea, I am interested in that title.
I just finished my Bloom forray: Where Shall Wisdom Be Found? and Jesus and Yahweh, both good and terrible. He's a joy to read and to study and I would describe myself as a Bloom enthusiast most certainly, but it is the spirit of his work more than the work itself that I dig. In other words, I love his exuberance (something of the thrill of having recently escaped death) even as it is unrefined. It also helps that we are both fans of a number of the same writers and thoughts. I will see if I can give you guys a quotation or two: small ones, so as not to divert the thread significantly.
