pedestrian critically injured by car in our neighborhood

i saw the car with cracked windshield yesterday, a block from my son's school and the incident i posted about a few months ago. the ghost bike is still there.

while i'd hoped the windshield damage was done by some other type of accident, or a trusty baseball bat like we saw in Boston over the weekend, apparently it was the impact of a human body.

i will quell my urge to rant, and instead just quote the streetsblog article:

According to accounts surfacing on Brownstoner, witnesses say the sun may have obscured the driver's vision. Is that now a mitigating factor when an SUV is driven fast enough to kill?

just added a "widget" from streetsblog.org to the sidebar of this site. just seeing how it sits at the moment. it looks/feels a bit like an ad, though (as in, that-looks-like-something-i-should-ignore), so i might switch to one of their "badges" instead.

i'm becoming a big fan of that site, though. and thanks to some prodding by a friend, i'm attending a Livable Streets brunch in our neighborhood this weekend -- we'll see how that feels.
