i was psyched to hear today that corporations can now spend as much as they'd like on political campaigns.
as a consumer, i so often feel disenfranchised, at a loss for my own ethical bearings, and frankly dumb come election time. what i need is for my choices to be clearly presented to me in easily-digestible, and -- let's be honest -- sexy ways. and who can better do that than the very corporations selling us stuff that might be affected by these elections in the first place? corporations deserve to have their free speech protected, and their voices heard!
thanks, SCOTUS!

fwiw, my dad pointed me to this campaign from Credo Action (/ Credo / Working Assets) about this issue.
oops, to correct myself, i
oops, to correct myself, i should say:
these corporations already know my tastes and preferences so well, let's just cut me out as the middle man and have them go directly to the politicians.
besides, we've already agreed that they're people. let's give them the heft at the voting booth that their considerable social bulk demands!
Perfectly Said
Yea, goodbye middle man--middle class--prols. Goodbye me. It's off to the Ministry of Love with you and me. Goodbye.
Yea, thank goodness for that
arh1, I am trying to come to terms with the fact that things are as bad as they are. Two thoughts:
1. I should not be surprised: if Obama is any kind of signal of a new beginning, he is also a sign of an ugly ending. Why should I have ever thought the things I voted against when I voted for Obama were simply going to fall in line when he came to office. Still, I fight the cynicism that says nothing new can ever come to American democracy, even if that newness must take time. But this Supreme Court decision, next to the way Health Care reform was all fucked up--terribly disillusioning.
2. the Republicans are betting that if they simply resist Obama's every move, people will blame him for a lack of leadership, not them for failing to follow it. Muddy it, muddle, stir up everything. It's working, too. If the Democrats can't come together, and get something done, they deserve all they get! And if they do not, with this SC decision, it doesn't matter anyway. Yes, tell me Senator, why is the commercial sponsored by Blue Cross/Blue Shield speaking the truth? And tell me also how good ol' uncle Sam isn't a corporate cock sucker? Yes, Senator, there is something dripping from your lip.
Terribly disenchanted. Terribly.
