it's been a month already, but for posterity... we made it! sammyboo and i have officially relocated to Seattle.
it was a mad dash out of Brooklyn, as expected: after an emotional week and a night of no sleep we almost died in the seatbeltless car service, screaming to JFK in the ridiculously early morning, with all the asphalt still steaming from the day before. after some haggling we got the dogs loaded on the plane, and i knew that somehow we'd make it.
some of you will remember Jason and Leigh Morfoot (aka Kinobserver) from their "Capital" film project, centered on the IMF conference and protests in DC many years ago.
for the past few years, thy've been working on a documentary film about copyright, how it's changing in light of digital/networked technologies, and the implications for our culture. from their web site: "CITIZEN 3.0 explores the relationship between media, technology, culture and democracy through the lens of copyright law."
recently, i helped them publish the entire film on their web site. check it out!
Dtekker's knowing Ian Ingram will be excited to know that he's got a big time show coming up at the Barry Friedman, Ltd gallery in Chelsea, with an opening on the evening of March 4.
hells yes, Ian! damn, it's an impressive testament to his talent, skills, and hard work over the years... if you live in NY, join me at the gallery on the 4th!
check out Ian's newer work at: http://www.barryfriedmanltd.com/
you can find Ian at Painting -> Contemporary if you can stomach the Flash site, or here are a few direct links:
i was psyched to hear today that corporations can now spend as much as they'd like on political campaigns.
the boy and i saw an incredible street musician on thursday at the 34th st station. the boy caught his name, thankfully: William Ruiz.
we had a bus to catch, otherwise we'd have stayed a long time and done a jig.
the video and tinny audio don't do him justice -- this guy wails.
if you live in NYC, look out for him.
happy birthday to the guy below. be sure to look closely at all of the various hair areas, and note the slightly open left eye.
no, i'm not hosting one, but the ads are great.
it's hilarious to see corporate behemoths stumble awkwardly into new marketing strategies, like the informal, conversational, social-networked un-ads of the youtube generation. (and here i am, passing on the viral video!)
holy hella congratulations to Just A Guy and his partner the Suze, on the birth of their not one, not two, but three new babies yesterday.
i know there aren't words to convey the emotion and sheer awesomeness of it all, so i'll just say love to all five of you from arh1 and the entire Dtek network.
head on over to destefanotriplets.blogspot.com for more.
it's coming up (almost exactly) on one year since i moved from Seattle to Brooklyn. much has changed for me, and i've got all sorts of new music coming in. but i'm just starting to rediscover one of the things about Seattle that will always stick with me...
i must emphasize again how spectacular Seattle-based KEXP is, and the awesomeness of DJ Riz in particular (though there are many other gems on show at the station...).
so i'm just getting my updates via email, but i gather that the murder of Dr. George Tiller is huge news.
more sickness from Those Who Know God.
fwiw, one of the emails i received had a good idea for taking action on this issue: donate to Medical Students for Choice. i just did, and i urge others to do the same.
