OK friends, I am putting out an all-call here, and to nothing less than communion! Come to dinner dtek.
i enjoyed reading an article in today's NY Times about bicycling in New York City, titled The Wild Bunch.
the author, a cyclist, gave some glimpses into the recent history of attitudes/policies towards biking in New York City, and advocated some really sensible suggestions for cyclists to further their own cause and continue to gain respect and appreciation from other citizens and policy-makers alike, i.e. suggestions for more sustainable transportation options for the city in general.
i saw the car with cracked windshield yesterday, a block from my son's school and the incident i posted about a few months ago. the ghost bike is still there.
while i'd hoped the windshield damage was done by some other type of accident, or a trusty baseball bat like we saw in Boston over the weekend, apparently it was the impact of a human body.
leo lent me FLOW recently, and i watched it in Tucson with my folks. i didn't necessarily love the film, but i'm glad to see water rights/access and related issues getting some attention in an accessible way...
also, i took this photo up the street from the office a couple of months ago. just to restate it for the record: "We have premium brands. Bring prestige and elegance to your home."
i'd never heard of him or his book before, but David Korten spoke some salient sanity on Democracy Now! today. the book is called Agenda for a New Economy: From Phantom Wealth to Real Wealth and at first glance it sounds great.
from today's DN:
mediacology pointed me towards 350.org today -- a(nother) site attempting to build global action in response to climate change. i've hardly cracked into the site yet, but it's interesting to see how various groups are attempting to make the issue "simple" and accessible, and inspire action, the 350.org animation being the best representation i've seen yet.
(warning: be careful with the links below if you haven't read the book yet. not so much "spoilers"; i just feel strongly that you'll enjoy the book so much more knowing less about the story...)
well i took my break from the USA Trilogy, and picked up Cormac McCarthy's The Road. no idea what i was in for.
Hey -- I'm going to work on a video about where our food comes from, and how buying locally produced food is one of the most effective things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint with some fifth graders at PS 124 for The Media Spot. I needed a place to store some links to videos I may show in class or post on our school blogs. I figured I'd share them here, and encourage you all to see these flicks.
picking up this discussion from the remaining relevant thread... i want to keep a concise list (roughly chronological) -- for my own memory if nothing else. i also want to start adding some overview sources.
