well, what is it now, 2008? as the NY Times reported a few days ago, it looks like (gasp) there really was a centralized Pentagon propaganda campaign, with collusion from big media, to sell the Iraq war (and smooth over all of its atrocities along the way).

i hadn't heard from Norman Solomon for a few years, until a few days ago RED pointed me to a new film project based on a book of his and created by the folks at the Media Education Foundation.

the film is called War Made Easy, and it's about the mass media's role in facilitating US wars over the last 50 years.

unbelievable op-ed in the Times last weekend, arguing for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. (registration required, temporary accounts available at bugmenot.com.)

hmm, they're making all of the same arguments that saner voices were making back in 2003.

on our recent trip to Hawaii my uncle pointed me to an article that made quite an impression on him. it was written (back in 2000) by Bill Joy -- one of the founders of Sun Microsystems -- and describes what he perceives to be grave threats posed by recent advances in nanotechnology, robotics, and genetics.
